Worksmart: Fluent in Southern California’s Design and Build Vernacular

Seamlessly, Strategically, and Smartly “Southern California”

Worksmart’s methodology focuses on integrating strategic planning, design, and construction into a seamless process. This methodology ensures efficient and risk-free project delivery, aligning with our commitment to human-centered design and data-driven research that fosters collaboration and inclusivity.

Our focus is on projects that embody the essence of Southern California, spanning from the San Fernando Valley to Orange County and San Diego, and from Santa Monica to East Los Angeles. This region's unique blend of cultural diversity, architectural styles, and environmental considerations presents both opportunities and challenges that our integrated approach is uniquely equipped to tackle.

The strategy-design-build methodology offers several advantages over traditional project delivery methods, particularly in the context of where we live and where our clients call home base:

  • Enhanced Collaboration: By bringing together strategy, design, and construction teams from the project's inception, we ensure that all stakeholders are aligned, leading to more cohesive and innovative solutions.

  • Streamlined Communication: A single point of contact throughout the project minimizes misunderstandings and delays, which is crucial in the fast-paced Southern California market.

  • Accelerated Timelines: Overlapping design and construction phases allow for faster project completion, a significant advantage in a region where time-to-market is often critical.

  • Cost Efficiency: Early involvement of all disciplines facilitates accurate budgeting and reduces the likelihood of costly changes during construction.

Worksmart Design has undertaken several projects that embody the essence of Southern California's unique culture and environment. Here are three notable examples:

1. Kinecta Federal Credit Union – Manhattan Beach Flagship Branch

Located in the beautiful Manhattan Beach neighborhood of Los Angeles, this project reflects Southern California's commitment to community development and cultural sensitivity. The design incorporates local photography and murals and community spaces, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among residents. By engaging with local artists and stakeholders, Worksmart Design ensured that the branch resonates with the community's rich cultural heritage

2. Vans Headquarters

As a brand synonymous with Southern California's skate and surf culture, Vans required a headquarters that embodies this lifestyle. Worksmart Design delivered a space that reflects the brand's ethos, incorporating open, collaborative areas and design elements inspired by the local environment. The headquarters serves as a hub for creativity and innovation, mirroring the dynamic spirit of Southern California's youth culture.

3. Southland Credit Union – Downey Branch

Located in Downey, California, the Southland Credit Union renovation project reflects Southern California's commitment to blending modern design with community heritage. The comprehensive renovation will include a new inviting entrance and bold design overhaul, cutting through a large portion of the exterior wall to introduce an indoor-to-outdoor connection—a truly Southern California touch.
