Southland Credit Union’s Downey branch is undergoing a significant transformation. Originally constructed in 1962, the 61-year-old structure is being reimagined to align with Southland C.U.’s vision of a modern, welcoming space that enhances functionality for both members and employees.
Worksmart’s approach centered on the branch’s history with a modern design language. The exterior will feature a bold, contemporary facade, incorporating clean lines and an inviting entryway to reflect the community’s vibrancy. A standout element of the redesign is the seamless indoor-outdoor connection, a hallmark of Southern California architecture, fostering a sense of openness and accessibility.
The interior focuses on creating an elevated experience for both members and staff. An open, light-filled branch layout will enhance the member journey, while the second floor is being transformed into a collaborative workspace, equipped with cutting-edge technology to support productivity and flexibility. Modern materials, textures, and finishes are integrated throughout the design to create a warm yet professional atmosphere.
“Every aspect of this renovation is designed to improve functionality while emphasizing aesthetic appeal,” said Daniel Markham, CEO and Managing Partner of Worksmart. “This is more than a remodel—it’s a reinvention of how the space serves Southland’s members and employees.”
Scheduled for completion in 2025, this project reflects Worksmart’s commitment to creating thoughtfully designed environments that enhance how people work, interact, and connect within their communities.
